The California State University, Bakersfield and Bakersfield College music departments will team up to present the first-ever student composers concert, Saturday, April 5 at 8 p.m. at the CSUB Doré Theatre.

CSUB music professor, Doug Davis said this is a fantastic opportunity for young composers to introduce their music to a live audience, and a chance for community members to enjoy a great show.

"Being able to present their innovations to a live audience is exactly what young composers need," Davis said. "It gives them an opportunity to get feedback from other musicians and gauge the audience's."

Davis added that this is the only event that allows student composers to present their compositions and he hopes to make it an annual event.

The concert will include jazz, chorale and orchestra arrangements. Proceeds from the event will held fund music scholarships at CSUB and Bakersfield College. Admission is $5 at the door.
