Kevin Harvick items creating nationwide buzz as CSUB Casino & Auction Night approaches

One–of–a–kind items drawing interest from racing fans across the nation

The CSUB Casino and Auction Night is always a highlight of the winter social calendar in Bakersfield. The 2002 event, however, is drawing interest from around the country. Much of that interest is due to the presence of several special pieces of NASCAR star Kevin Harvick memorabilia available only at the Jan. 25 event.

The items, donated by the Kevin Harvick Racing team through the efforts of longtime CSUB supporter Kevin Small, have created such a stir that people across the nation already have made offers for them. CSUB Assistant Development Director Mark Mayes assures that the items will be available for bid at on Jan. 25.

“There has been such tremendous interest shown from around the country that we will allowing phone bidding for selected items for the first time this year,” says Mayes. Those interested in participating in the auction by phone should call me at (661) 664–3473 prior to Thursday, Jan. 24.”

The items include an autographed Simpson racing helmet worn by Harvick during his rookie season; autographed Simpson racing gloves worn by Harvick; an autographed replica hood of Winston Cup car; a limited edition large water color print of his car on pit stop not available to the public (signed by Harvick and the artist) and a scale replica of Harvick’s Winston Series truck which is no longer in production.

The seventh annual Cal State Bakersfield Casino and Auction will take place Friday, Jan. 25 in the Icardo Center on the CSUB campus. Pre–sale tickets are $30. Tickets are $35 at the door. All proceeds from the Casino and Auction night benefit the CSUB student–athlete scholarship fund.

The evening begins with a complimentary dinner from Outback Steakhouse followed by Las Vegas style gaming action, including black jack, craps and roulette. Silent auctions will take place throughout the night. The live auction begins at 8:30 p.m.

Headlining the available auction items is a basketball autographed by Lakers superstars Shaquille O’Neal and Kobe Bryant. Also available will be a pair of autographed boxing gloves by “Sugar” Shane Mosley and Vernon Forrest, who will square off for the world welterweight championship the day after Casino Night on Jan. 26 at Madison Square Garden. Additionally, a beautiful leather chair and ottoman from Hutchinson Leather Furniture as well as gourmet dinners and a Jamaican Getaway (with accommodations at the Ritz–Carlton, Jamaica) highlight the auction list.
