A gala evening of theater, music and art is scheduled Sunday, Nov. 3, at California State University, Bakersfield's ninth annual "A Taste of the Arts" from 5 to 7:30 p.m.

The event, which takes place in the Dore Theater and Plaza, the Todd Madigan Gallery and the CSUB Music Building, is free, and the public is invited. Refreshments include a wide array of hors d'oeuvres and desserts.

Attendees will be treated to brief performances across the arts spectrum. The program includes:
The CSUB Chamber Singers, directed by CSUB music professor Robert Provencio, and accompanied by CSUB music professor Charles Badami.
Scenes from "Gypsy Baron" by the CSUB Opera Workshop, directed by music professor Peggy Sears.
An art exhibit, "Method and Meaning," by Stanley Wilson and Alonzo Davis, in the Todd Madigan Gallery. Margaret Nowling is the gallery's curator.
Jazz selections performed by the CSUB Jazz Ensemble, directed by music professor Doug Davis.
Scenes from Arthur Millers A View from the Bridge, directed by theater professor Anita DuPratt.
The CSUB Jazz Singers, directed by Sears.

The evening is hosted by CSUB and the Fine Arts Committee of the CSUB Foundation.

"This is a wonderful opportunity for people to come out, enjoy some wonderful refreshments and see some terrific performances by talented students," said DuPratt, chair of CSUB's Performing Arts Department. "I hope people will come and enjoy this fun evening."

Added Michael Chertok, CSUB's vice president for university advancement, "This is a great way to get a 'taste of the arts.' Art, music, opera, theater - it's all here."
