Two concerts are on the horizon from California State University, Bakersfield

On Feb. 24, Musica da Camera, CSUB's chamber orchestra, presents "Back to Baroque" at the Bakersfield Christian Life Center, 5500 Olive Drive, beginning at 8 p.m. The program will include the Don Quixote Suite by George Philip Telemann, and the Violin Concerto in E major and First Brandenburg Concerto in F major by Johann Sebastian Bach.

An ensemble of 14 musicians will perform the Baroque repertoire. CSUB music professor Gordon Mehling, Musica da Camera's music director and conductor, is the soloist in the violin concerto.

Cost is $10 general admission, $7 for students and seniors, $3 for children under 10. Advance tickets are on sale at Russo's Books in The Marketplace shopping center, 9000 Ming Avenue.

On March 3, the CSUB Performing Arts Department faculty recital is scheduled, featuring pianist Charles Badami and violinist Gordon Mehling. The performance will occur at St. Philip The Apostle Church, 7100 Stockdale Highway, beginning at 7:30 p.m. The duo will perform three sonatas by Beethoven as part of The Beethoven Cycle. Their intention is to perform all the sonatas over the next two years. Beethoven wrote 10 sonatas for violin and piano.

Admission is $5 with all proceeds going to the Piano Scholarship Fund at CSUB. Advance tickets are available at Russo's Books in The Marketplace.
