High school artists exhibit at the Madigan Gallery
"State of the Arts 2001" features the works of art students from high schools throughout Kern County. The exhibit opens Tuesday, Feb. 20, in the Todd Madigan Art Gallery at California State University, Bakersfield and continues through March 15.
Art works of junior and senior students from Arvin, Bakersfield, Centennial, East, Garces, Liberty, North, Ridgeview, Stockdale and Wasco high schools are featured in the juried exhibit. The students' works have been judged by local art professionals. Many different media and styles are included.
Gallery curator Margaret Nowling is enthused about the exhibit. "The level of work by the student artists is very high, in some cases exceptional," she said. "The dedication of their teachers is phenomenal."
A reception for the artists will be held in the Todd Madigan Art Gallery on Friday, Feb. 23, from 4:30 to 7 p.m.
The gallery is open Tuesday through Thursday, 12:30 to 4:30 p.m. and Saturday, 1 to 4 p.m. Admission is free. For more information, call the gallery information line, 661/664-2238.
