Extended Studies offers human resource management certificate review course
California State University, Bakersfield's Extended University and the Society for Human Resource Management, Kern County Chapter, are sponsoring a review course for certification of professionals in human resources, Feb. 27 to May 1.
Mike Bedell, CSUB management and marketing professor, will coordinate the program, which will feature guest instructors from local businesses, including Nancy Chaffin, Texaco Worldwide Exploration & Production; Sam Chow, Klein, DeNatale, Goldner law firm; Marc Cisneros, Jim's Supply Co.; Mike Ewald, Kern Medical Center; Carroll Hayden, City of Bakersfield; George Johnston, Clinica Sierra Vista; Renee Kinzel, GAF Materials Corp.; Mimi Placentia, City of Bakersfield; Mark Smith, AC Electric Co.; Keith Stoller, United Farm Workers; Kate Tandy, GAF Materials Corp.; and Karen Thompson, Texaco Worldwide Exploration & Production.
The program is designed to prepare professionals for certification in human resources management (PHR or SPHR). Topics will include human resources planning, legal environment, recruiting and selection, training and development, compensation and benefits, health, safety, and security, and employee and union relations.
Class will meet Tuesdays, from 6 to 9 p.m. at Extended University, Room 201.
