High school artists exhibit at Madigan Gallery
"State of the Arts 2002," featuring the works of art students from high schools throughout Kern County, opened this week at the Todd Madigan Art Gallery at California State University, Bakersfield. The exhibit continues through March 14.
Art works of junior and senior students from Arvin, Bakersfield, Centennial, East, Foothill, Garces, Liberty, McFarland, North, Ridgeview, Stockdale, Wasco, and West high schools are featured in this juried exhibit. Local art professionals have judged the students' works. Many different media and styles are included.
"The artists are given a list of criteria that must be met in order for the work to be accepted into this exhibition," said Margaret Nowling, gallery curator. "Care must have been taken in the production of each piece so that it looks professional. The students are asked to come up with original work no class assignments for this show. Their response over the years has been very consistent. The work is very creative and well crafted."
The gallery is open Tuesday through Thursday, 12:30 to 4:30 p.m. and Saturday, 1 to 4 p.m. Admission is free. For more information, call the gallery information line, 661/664-2238.
