"Sumo: Mirror, Expression and Molder of Japanese Society" presented at CSUB
A look at sumo wrestling not only as a contemporary sport, but also as an institutional mirror through which to view Japanese history over the past 1,200 years will be the presented at California State University, Bakersfield History Department's next History Forum.
"Sumo: Mirror, Expression and Molder of Japanese Society" will be presented Friday, June 1, at 3:30 p.m. in the Romberg Nursing Center, Room 105, by Gordon Berger, professor of history at the University of Southern California.
Berger has lectured internationally on sumo and spent many years providing English-language commentary on sumo tournaments held in Japan and televised in Southern California.
