Party in the Park scheduled for May 11
Top California wineries headline the fifth annual Alumni Party in the Park wine tasting at California State University, Bakersfield Friday, May 11, beginning at 5:30 p.m.
CSUB Alumni Director Jill Ford said the lineup is already attracting one of the biggest crowds the annual wine tasting has ever had.
"We're really excited," Ford said. "We have some of the top Napa Valley wineries, plus some of the hottest new wineries on the Central Coast."
Wineries represented are:
From Napa Valley, Silver Oak Cellars, Beringer Vineyards, Merryvale, Folie a Deux and Swanson.
From Sonoma County, Geyser Peak Winery and Rodney Strong Vineyards.
From Paso Robles, Eberle Winery, Norman Vineyards, Tobin James Cellars, Grey Wolf and Dover Canyon.
From Santa Barbara County, Lane Tanner and Zaca Mesa.
Also, CSUB's sister campus CSU Fresno will be pouring wines from it's Fresno State Winery, the only bonded winery at an American college or university.
Plus CSUB's 30th anniversary wines 1999 Barbera and Chardonnay will be available for tasting and orders. CSUB's Barbera won a gold medal at the 2000 California State Fair Wine Competition.
Ford said the tasting is a way for the university to say "Thank you" to the many alumni who continue to support CSUB. Friends of the university are also welcome and invited, she said.
Hors d'oeuvres will also be served at the event, which precedes the annual Bakersfield Jazz Festival in the CSUB Amphitheater.
Party in the Park will be held in Alumni Park on the CSUB campus, which is just east of the Walter Stiern Library and north of the cafeteria.
Cost for the tasting is $20 per person, with a portion of the proceeds going to the Alumni Scholarship Endowment.
