Deadline Approaches For Scholarship Applicants
Officials at California State University, Bakersfield are reminding area students that the deadline for applications to the Hispanic Excellence Scholarship Fund at California State University, Bakersfield is Feb. 29. Applications postmarked after Feb. 29 won't be accepted, said Homer Montalvo, associate vice president, admissions and records at CSUB.
The program currently provides 60 annual $1,000 scholarships. Since the beginning of the scholarship program, some $642,000 has been awarded to more than 450 CSUB students.
The program is aimed at assisting academically eligible, financially needy students with leadership potential from high schools in CSUB's service area of Kern, Kings, Inyo, and Mono counties. All applicants, new and continuing recipients, must submit a short autobiography explaining the educational disadvantages he or she has faced in pursuing higher education.
Applicants must complete an application packet, including an autobiographical essay, academic transcripts, and three forms of recommendation. They must have earned a minimum 3.0 grade point average and plan to enroll as a full-time student at CSUB in fall 2000.
