60+ Club welcomes new members, new programs


The 60+ Club hosts Possibilities Day Sept. 7 in the California State University, Bakersfield, Cafeteria at 10 a.m. Featured speaker will be Robert Catlin, CSUB provost and vice president of academic affairs.

The annual event is designed to acquaint newcomers to the organization, which promotes continuing education and volunteer service among seniors. Action Network volunteers will be recognized for service to the university.

Interest groups include Armchair Travel, Bridge, Beginners Bridge, Classic Movies, Coffee with the Professor, Diner's Club, Readers Group, and Sing Along. Two interest groups are being added this year ­ Mahjong and Reading Shakespeare.

Action Network volunteers provide service at many CSUB activities and programs, including concerts and theater presentations at the Dore Theater, and athletic events at the Icardo Center, as well as at the Facility for Animal Care & Treatment, Todd Madigan Art Gallery, Stiern Memorial Rose Garden, and the California Well Sample Repository.

The 60+ Club also hosts Eldercollege, a continuing education program held in October, and a retirement seminar held each January. The club meets on the second Thursday of every month.

Parking is available in Lot L, behind the cafeteria and on the grass area north of Extended University.

The 60 + Club is open to everyone 60 years old or retired. Annual dues are $30. For more information, please call 661/664-3211.
