CSUB hosts self-defense workshop for women

A women's self defense workshop will be held Saturday, April 15, at the Student Union Multipurpose Room at California State University, Bakersfield, 3 to 5:30 p.m.

Demonstrations will be presented by CSUB criminal justice professor Robert Fong, who has a fourth degree black belt in tae-kwon-do; and English professor Michael Flachmann, a fourth degree black belt in judo.

Speakers include counselor Bobbie George, CSUB criminal justice professor Doris Hall, Capt. Neil Mahan of the Bakersfield Police Department; and Richard Oberholzer, Kern County Superior Court judge.

"We encourage all women who want to learn more about self defense to attend," Flachmann said. The workshop is open to the public, free of charge. The event is hosted by the Judo Club and the Criminal Justice Club at CSUB.
