Tex-Mex artist performs at CSUB

 

Accordionist and singer Santiago Jiménez Jr. will perform Tuesday and Wednesday, Nov. 7 and 8, at California State University, Bakersfield, in the Student Union Multipurpose Room, 7 p.m. A National Heritage Award recipient, Jiménez is dedicated to performing and preserving the old-style Tex-Mex conjunto music of his father, legendary Don Santiago Jiménez.

Jiménez will perform and discuss compositions, ranging from polkas to rancheras. The artist will be introduced and accompanied by CSUB modern languages professor José Reyna on bajo sexto. Frank Cavazos will play drums and Ray Bolaños will perform on bass.

The concert is sponsored by the Department of Modern Languages and Literatures, and students in the fall 2000 Chicano Literature courses.
