CSUB debate team wins 2nd tournament in a row

California State University, Bakersfield debaters Jeremy Peterson and David Wells had another outstanding performance this past weekend at CSU-Fresno's Raisin Center Invitational, defeating Claremont in a unanimous 3-0 decision in the final round. Peterson and Wells posted an overall record of eight wins and one loss during the three-day tournament. On their way to winning the tournament, Peterson and Wells also defeated teams from USC, Arizona State University, Pepperdine University, CSU Long Beach, and the College of Eastern Utah.

CSUB forensics director Omar Guevara said "this is an especially notable success, as it is very difficult to win two college debate tournaments in a row, particularly when they are only one week apart." CSUB debaters also won the Top of the Rockies Debate Tournament at the University of Wyoming Sept. 14-18.

CSUB Debaters were also recognized for their individual performances at the tournament: Leah Clark was ranked as seventh best individual speaker, Wells was ranked as fifth best individual speaker, and Peterson was ranked as second best individual speaker.

The team now takes a few weekends off from tournament travel to prepare for its next string of tournaments: San Diego State University's Aztec Invitational (Oct. 13-15) and Pepperdine University's Ray Buchanan Invitational (Oct. 20-22).
