 Counseling Center                 654-3366

             Offers free mental health counseling to registered students. Counselors are available Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. Common issues that my prompt a referral are sexual identity concerns, depression, anxiety, stress, romantic relationship problems, family relationship problems, sexual assault, physical assault, grief, suicidal thoughts, and feelings of isolation.

 

Ombudsperson                       654-3366

            Janet Millar, a counselor in the Counseling Center, is the current Ombudsperson for CSUB. The Ombudsperson is available to meet with any student who has a concern or complaint about the University. The Ombudsperson serves to facilitate dialogue between students and the University when help is needed to resolve a disagreement or misunderstanding. She does not impose solutions, but acts as a neutral mediator in problems-solving and conflict resolution.

 

Health Center                        654-2394

             The Health Center provides basic outpatient medical services for the diagnosis and treatment of acute and sub-acute conditions, illnesses and injuries. The medical staff is available for routine health care, women’s services, minor surgery, and urgent care including basic x-rays, laboratory and pharmacy. The Health Center provides information on contraception, safer sexual practices, STD testing and counseling, and immunizations.

 

Health Educator                     654-3453

Erika Delamar is currently the Health Educator on campus, and her office is located in the Health Center. Students can schedule an appointment with her or drop by the Health Center to see if she is available. The Health Educator is trained to help students understand the health issues most important to them, ways to prevent health conditions and diseases, and tools to cope with health related issues as they arise. Nutrition, exercise, drug and alcohol abuse prevention, sexual health education, sexually transmitted disease education, and HIV information and counseling are among the topics addressed by the Health Education Dept.

 

Campus Police                        654-2111

             The University Police Department is a full service law enforcement agency that is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The University Police Department investigates crimes that occur on campus and assists other local law enforcement agencies. If a student has been assaulted, is being harassed, or in general, believes they are in danger, the police should be the first campus agency contacted. The officers can provide information regarding legal issues, serve as liaisons to other law enforcement agencies, can provide emergency restraining orders, and will provide escort services on campus if a student feels unsafe.

 

 Gay/Lesbian/Straight Student Network (GLSSN)

            GLSSN is a student organization on campus that is part of Student Activities Department. GLSSN has a bulletin board in DDH.

 

GST 149: Gay/Lesbian Issues

             This is a general studies course that provides an introductory exposure to gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgendered issues through lecture, presentation, activities, and discussion. Each quarter a new topic of importance to GLBT individuals will be presented.

 

PSYC 342: The Psychology of Sexual Orientation

The purpose of this course is to incorporate information from a variety of different fields (e.g., history, sociology, biology) to address psychological issues relevant to sexual orientation. In this course, students will critically examine attitudes, assumptions, and research regarding straight, lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgendered people. Topics will include the development of gender and sexual orientation, historical views of sexual orientation, differences between individuals with different orientations, progression and change in orientation throughout the lifespan, social/legal policies regarding sexual orientation, and stereotypes and discrimination of individuals with particular orientations.
