Safe Zone Program


Welcome to the Safe Zone webpage!

The purpose of the Safe Zone program is to establish a University-wide network of easily visible allies who can provide support, information, and assistance to lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender students at CSU, Bakersfield. Allies are trustworthy, knowledgeable, and sensitive people who can provide a safe and nondiscriminatory environment on campus for members of the LGBT community. Allies are faculty, staff, and administrators who have attended the Safe Zone Ally Training and agreed to be visible allies of the LGBT community on campus. Allies can be identified by their display of the following decal:

If you are interested in finding out more about the program or in becoming a Safe Zone Ally please contact the CSUB Safe Zone coordinator, Michael Harville, Ph.D., who is a counselor in the CSUB Counseling Center. He can be reached by calling 661-654-3366 or by email at mharville@csub.edu.

Safe Zone Ally orientation orientations occur during the fall and spring quarters.

The next ally orientation will be in Fall 2012 in the Health Center conference room. Please call or email the counseling center to get your name on the list or to get more information.
