Commencement Day

Commencement is a special time for our students, their family and friends, and the CSUB family. Below are some helpful tips to make the most of this memorable occasion.  

  • Doors open two hours prior to the ceremony.
  • Seats are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Saving seats will not be allowed, please assemble your party before entering.
  • Arrive early and be in your seat 15 minutes prior to the start time of the ceremony.
  • Processional begins at:
    • 5:45 p.m. for the Graduate Hooding Ceremony on Wednesday, May 22, 2019; and
    • 7:15 a.m. for the Undergraduate Ceremony on Friday, May 24, 2019.
  • Please remain seated throughout the ceremony.
  • Be respectful of fellow guests around you.
  • CSUB is a smoke-free campus. Please plan accordingly.
  • Guests are not permitted on or in the front of the stage to take photographs or video. Professional photographers will be photographing the graduates as they cross the stage.
  • For the safety of your pets and all guests, we ask that you please leave your pets at home. Only service animals are permitted on campus during commencement.
  • During the ceremony, medical personnel are present.
  • Coordinate a place and time to meet your graduate after the ceremony that does not inhibit the flow of guests at venue entrances/exits.
  • Receptions will immediately follow the ceremonies. Please see campus map for more information. 
  • Streamer cannons will be going off during the ceremony.

Tickets and Seating

Graduate Hooding Ceremony

  • No tickets required
  • Seating is first-come, first-served. 
  • Security and commencement staff will assist with seating guests.
  • Saving of seats is not permitted.

Undergraduate Ceremony

  • No tickets required
  • Seating is first-come, first-served. 
  • Security and commencement staff will assist with seating guests.
  • Saving of seats is not permitted.
  • Security and commencement staff will assist with seating guests.

Prohibited Items

In an effort to make commencement a pleasant experience for all guests and participants, the following items are prohibited at Commencement:

  • Purses, backpacks, or totes. NOTE: Only clear (see-thru) bags will be permitted into the venue.
  • Signs
  • Umbrellas
  • Air horns and other noise makers
  • Balloons
  • Beach balls
  • Camera tripods
  • Selfie sticks
  • Fireworks
  • Outside food.* Exception: Formula and/or food for infants, toddlers, and for medical needs.
  • Bottles and Beverage cans*
  • Alcohol
  • Illegal drugs
  • Strollers
  • Firearms/Weapons of any kind
  • Tobacco produces and vape devices including cigars, cigarettes, and chewing tobacco

Violation of these rules will result in removal from the venue.

*Water, coffee, and snacks will be available for purchase by vendors inside the venue.


Parking

CSUB provides FREE parking for guests during commencement ceremonies. Please refer to the campus map for parking lot locations.

  • Undergraduate Ceremony
    • Parking will be available in all CSUB parking lots.
    • Disabled parking will be available in all CSUB parking lots.
    • Bicycle valet service will be available from 6am to 1pm on the east side of the Student Recreation Center. Bicycle riders are encouraged to enter the campus from Kroll Way.
  • Graduate Hooding Ceremony
    • Parking will be available in Lots H and I.
    • Disabled parking will be available in Lot I.
