Candidates for baccalaureate degrees to be awarded at the end of a regular term must file
applications with the Evaluations Office, inside Admissions and Records no later than the end
of the second week of instruction of the quarter in which they expect to complete graduation
requirements. No application will be accepted for summer session degrees after
the end of the first week of instruction of the regular summer session.
All students are urged to apply for graduation at least one full quarter before they plan to graduate, because a reply to the application may take six to eight weeks. They may thus be notified prior to the registration period for their last quarter of any deficiencies in graduation requirements.
Diplomas are not distributed during commencement. Diplomas will be distributed upon completion and verification of degree requirements. Diplomas will be mailed to the address provided by the student on the grad check.
Graduation with Honors
Honors at graduation are awarded to undergraduate students who have completed at least
60 residential units of letter grade work as part of their baccalaureate program. Honors
awards take into account all courses taken at California State University, Bakersfield
and other institutions of higher learning. The grade point averages (GPA) necessary for
graduation with honors are as follows:
*** summa cum laude
3.9 to 4.0 GPA
** magna cum laude
3.6 to 3.89 GPA
* cum laude
3.3 to 3.59 GPA
Although the determinations of honors awards cannot be made until final grades are recorded and completion of graduation requirements is verified for all candidates; they are eligible to wear honors cords in the ceremonies.
