The CSU College Corps Program is a pilot early intervention outreach program that targets freshmen students and works with them throughout their four years of high school with the goal of increasing the number of students that attend a four-year university after high school. The CSU College Corps Program is an innovative approach to offer pre-college advising to high school students by supplementing the work of school guidance counselors. It addresses the high student-to-counselor ratios at high schools which make it difficult for counselors to provide students with individual assistance with academic advising, college exploration, college course preparation, and financial aid awareness essential for college enrollment.
Select college students are trained and supervised to serve as pre-college advisors to provide advising to high school students, giving them practical experience and the opportunity to serve as role models and mentors for the high school students they advise.
The program was previously implemented at East Bakersfield High School, Highland High School, North High School, and South High School. Additionally, the program is currently servicing students at Bakersfield High School, East Bakersfield High School, and Independence High School.
