Winter, 2008
Parent Newsletter
We are glad to have all the children back for another great quarter here at the Center. It was a little different returning, since many of you had older siblings still at home on their Winter Break. I think we are all settling into our new schedules. So: Welcome back to one and all. We have planned some fun special events this quarter: Pajama Movie Day and Valentine’s Day Parties, just to name a few.
Program Update
We have hired eight new student assistants, for a total of 33 student employees. There are 98 children enrolled in the program. Wow, no wonder I feel so busy; I am busy. Thank goodness I have such a wonderful, dedicated full-time staff to support the operation of the program: both teachers and office staff. Our opening teachers this quarter are Tonia Toledo and Rachel Leckliter. Aimee Torres will continue as the closing teacher, in the afternoons from 2:00 to 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, while Lotella Hale shares this responsibility on Monday and Wednesday.
Early morning arrival between 7:00 and 8:00 a.m. is in Room 3 for all children
and in your child’s own classroom at 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m.
(The two-year olds may head to their respective classrooms between 7:45 a.m. and 8:00 a.m.)
Please remember that all children enrolled in the morning need to arrive by 9:00 am.
From 4:00 - 5:00 p.m., the children are scheduled to play outdoors, of course, weather permitting. During cold or inclement weather, the children will be in the following locations:
Rooms Three: Children enrolled in Room One, Two, or Three
Room Five: Children enrolled in Rooms Four or Five
Typically, all children will be in Room Three from 4:55 - 6:00 p.m.

Winter Quarter Weather and Clothing
The teachers are telling me some children are arriving without coats or sweaters. Due to this quarter’s unpredictable weather, please be sure to dress your child in warm clothing - and be sure to label all outerwear - coats, sweaters, sweat shirts, etc – with your child’s name. Also, please be sure that your child has a change of clothes at school - old shirt, pants, socks and underwear. If you have any items of clothing that you would like to donate, it would be appreciated. Please check with your child’s teacher what is most needed prior to bringing donations. We desperately need extra shoes for all classrooms. Please note: If your child is not well enough to go outside, then your child is not well enough to be at school. If you have a Doctor’s note stating your child needs to remain indoors due to a health concern, then we can make an exception. The children will be outdoors when it is cold. This actually helps them to develop a stronger immune system.

Children’s Center Tax ID # is 952643086 We would like to offer a new service this year to facilitate your tax preparation. You may, for a small fee of $2.00, order a copy of your payments for the 2006 calendar year. Please see Kris or Stephanie in order to do this.
Parent Participation
The Center’s staff would like to express their appreciation and thanks to the parents for their outstanding Fall quarter parent participation. So . . . please be sure to sign up for your Winter quarter parent participation. We encourage 10 hours of parent participation per quarter. Donations of supplies are appreciated in lieu of volunteer time. Short and long term projects are posted in each classroom. All classes are currently in need of art and craft supplies necessary for the Valentine’s Day projects. Washing blankets and smocks for each classroom is also a helpful way to earn your hours. Please contact Stephanie if you are interested in participating in a classroom.
During each quarter, we request that each family donate at least one box of tissues and two sponges to their child’s classroom. This is especially important during Winter quarter for preventative health measures. Also, it would be appreciated to have Lysol and/or medium bottles of bleach and hand wipes brought in. (Please check with your child’s teacher to determine which supplies are most needed). And - please remember that the donated items count toward parent participation.

Sign In Sheets
All children must be signed in upon arrival and signed out upon departure. The Center takes legal responsibility for your child once you sign him/her in. Please sign with your full signature (no initials). Remember if your child is absent please write the reason for the absence on the sign in/out sheet with your full signature to the right of it. All make-up days need to be approved by the director. Following these simple steps is greatly appreciated.
