CSUB Children’s Art Institute 2009-2010 Announcements
This past academic year 2008-2009 has proven to be a great experience for students who have
been a part of the CSUB Children's Art Institute. This past fall students presented a lecture on
Latino artists to the KCSOS Academic Decathlon students who came to CSUB. In addition they
presented an art exhibition of their artwork based on Frida Kahlo entitled "The 39
Fridas." This was presented in the Albertson Room at CSUB this past November of 2008.
This past winter quarter 2009 during the month of March students enrolled in Art 302 presented
a community art exhibition entitled "Pop-Art Pop Change" at the AltaOne Federal Credit
Union on River Run Blvd. March is National Youth Art Month so the exhibition brought public
attention to art in the schools through our collaborative program at Reagan Elementary
School.
Our collaborative art program at Reagan Elementary School was featured on the cover and on the
inside of the CSUB President's Report for 2007-2008 featuring Excellence Through Partnerships.

The Children's Art Institute Community Exhibition entitled "It's Raining Cats &
Dogs" held at the Coffee Road Pet Resort in March of 2007 was featured in the March 2009
edition of the national art education publication Arts & Activities. For more information

Coming next academic year 2009-2010, the Children's Art Institute in collaboration with the
CSUB Extended University will be offering fall, winter, spring and spring break children's art
camps. These camps will be offered both on and off campus. The camps are for grades 1-6. We
are planning 14 camps for fall through spring of next year. The classes are taught by CSUB
pre-service art education students and Dr. Turner. Each camp offers a different theme and art
media. Some classes will take field trips to local museums and galleries as part of the
experience.
Also coming this year will be the 2010 CSUB Children's Art Institute Children's Art Calendar.
Look for this to be out sometime in November. The calendar will feature children's artwork
from all over Kern County. The calendar was a project initiated by Children's Art Institute
Assistants Kari Greenfield and Chan Hin.
