On behalf of everyone here at California State University, Bakersfield, I extend a warm welcome to our campus.  Please know that our faculty, students, staff, and alumni join me in extending this warm welcome to you, and that they stand ready to help you become a part of the CSUB Roadrunner family.

        We stand ready to show you why we Roadrunners think CSUB is, indeed, a special and unique academic place.  We are proud of our campus, and point with pride to the many important worthwhile activities that take place here.  But what we are most proud of is the caliber and nature of our student body,

        Here at CSUB, we pride ourselves on having faculty who truly care about their students and who are dedicated to helping them succeed.  We are proud too that every year we can point to some very significant academic achievements of our students.  Our students have established an outstanding record in the rate by which they are admitted to top graduate programs across the nation.  And particularly noteworthy in this respect is their acceptance rate into first-rate doctoral programs, and into recognized medical and law schools.

        Yes here at CSUB, our faculty and staff stand ready to help every student succeed.  We provide a broad array of support services, including individual advising and tutoring, academic advising, and financial aid services.  We also offer an Honors Program for high achieving students, as well as extensive tutorial, and student services for every student.

        We believe it is a most important part of our responsibility to prepare our students to be successful.  We recognize and are proud that our graduates are a driving leadership force in our region.  Our graduates help run cities and county governments, and hold political office; serve in important positions in business; and have key roles in the oil and the agricultural industries.  They teach the children of this great valley and also provide nursing and health care in our regional hospitals and other health care facilities.  Their success and the continuing economic growth of this region offer solid testimony to the quality of the education our graduates receive here at CSUB.

        It is also a wonderful testimonial to CSUB’s commitment to service - - - to serving the educational needs of the people of this region.  We continue to be one of the fastest growing regions of the state, and know that we must continue to be proactive, adaptable, and committed to finding solutions to regional problems.  We must continue to be on the cutting edge in what we do and how we do it - - - in the use of technology, in the research efforts of our professors, etc.

        As we move forward in the new millennium, we do so with confidence and pride in what our university stands for - - - pride in the accomplishments of our faculty and in the caliber of the students we graduate here at CSUB.
