Scope, Purpose, Authority
|
PURPOSE
It is the State's policy to provide a safe
and healthy workplace for all employees. The California State
Employees Association (CSEA) fully supports and cooperates
with the policy. this VDT USER'S HANDBOOK is designed to
comply with Section 10.5b of the 1992/95 Agreement between
the State of California and CSEA, Bargaining Unit 4 (Office
and Allied) which states:
"The State shall provide instruction in the
proper operation and adjustment of VDTs and VDT workstation
equipment. The State shall develop and prepare a VDT user's
brochure that will be available to all departments for training
purposes."
SCOPE
This handbook reflects Federal and general
industry safety guidelines that promote safe work stations
for employees who work at VDTs by informing employees of:

Ways to adjust VDT workstation to place
themselves in the proper position to avoid injuries.

Preventive measures such as proper work
habits and exercises to relieve physical tension caused
by working in one position and repeating the same mechanical
motions.
This handbook was not developed based on the
assumption that every VDT user will be issued ergonomic furniture
and equipment. VDT equipment purchases are subject to budgeting
constraints within each agency.
