Welcome

Welcome to the Antelope Valley Center of California State University, Bakersfield. Our Center offers students a wide range of learning opportunities from which to choose.

We provide students with a rich learning environment in a wide variety of disciplines and offer both undergraduate and graduate academic programs.

The faculty and staff of the Antelope Valley Center are strongly committed to our students. Our primary goal is to provide each student with the highest quality educational experience possible, both in terms of our academic programs and student support services. Students have the opportunity to study with excellent scholars and to actively engage in the process of discovery in a student- centered learning community. Faculty members are readily available to students in small class settings and outside of the classroom for individual exchanges of ideas. Whenever possible, we try to move beyond the "4X2" approach to learning-the four walls of the classroom and the two covers of a book-to encourage direct involvement in various fields of research; to investigate important community-based issues; and to engage the community through applied research and service.

Our Center also offers opportunities to enhance the quality of life of our students. Associated Students Inc. (ASI) at the CSUB AV Center is a branch of the ASI on the main campus. ASI coordinates elections, programming, event planning, club organizing, and much more.

In addition to our commitment to students, the Antelope Valley Center strives to be a part of, rather than apart from, the community in which we live and work. For example, we partnered with the city of Lancaster to develop the Lancaster University Center at the old fairgrounds at Division and I Streets. This Center provides state-of-the-art classrooms and laboratories that help enhance our educational mission. In addition, we're collaborating with Antelope Valley College to offer a dual admissions program to help ensure a seamless transition for students who wish to pursue a four-year degree upon completion of their studies at the community college.

Our Center offers many distinctive experiences and academic programs that can advance your educational and personal goals. At CSUB-AV, we're here for you!

Sincerely,

Dr. John Hultsman
