The practice of visual arts has been characterized by continuing
change regarding meaning, value and the nature of art. The
mission and goals of the CSUB Art Program reflect the unique and
fragile nature of fine art content. The arts do not require the
curricular uniformity inherent to disciplines such as
mathematics, the physical and social sciences, and,
particularly, professional programs.
Mission Statement: It is the mission of the art
program to maintain the facilities, academic atmosphere and
professional resources that provide students the freedom and
opportunity to develop their artistic potential. The educational
objectives of the Art Department provide a strong applied
foundation in art for majors and enrich the general education of
the general student population of the University. Furthermore,
the art curriculum affirms our belief that all students possess
talent and potential, that making art is an innate human act,
and that a key component of our faculties mission is to motivate
artistic expression in our students.
