Goal 1: Students will generate, analyze, and synthesize information.
 
Objective 1a: Understand and utilize critical thinking.
 
Objective 1b: Reason and demonstrate logical consistency in oral and written communication.
 
Objective 1c: Construct and deconstruct arguments.
 
Objective 1d: Conduct applied social science research to generate knowledge for administrative and policy processes.
 
Objective 1e: Use quantitative, qualitative, and interpretive research methods (including computer applications) to assess the validity of research hypotheses.
 
Objective 1f: Exhibit expertise with analytical tools (quantitative, qualitative, and interpretive including computer applications) to generate meaning and understandings.
 
Objective 1g: Use various information technologies
 
Objective 1h: Integrate information to facilitate recommendations, decision making, and problem solving.


Goal 2: Students should demonstrate reflective problem solving.
 
Objective 2a: Structure policy problems.
 
Objective 2b: Use various perspectives – ethical, legal, political, economic, professional, social, cultural, and institutional – to generate strategies and alternatives for organizational and governmental action.
 
Objective 2c: Discern contextual nuances – historical, contemporary, and futuristic – and integrate them within employment and civic activities.
 
Objective 2d: Apply theoretical knowledge to practical situations.
 
Objective 2e: Demonstrate the ability to plan, implement, and evaluate program, policies, and procedures.


Goal 3: Students will interact and communicate effectively.
 
Objective 3a: Demonstrate an understanding of human behavior to guide and inform leadership activities.
 
Objective 3b: Participate effectively as a team member and team leader.
 
Objective 3c: Work independently to complete a project (with minimal guidance).
 
Objective 3d: Structure problem and formulate policy arguments and procedures.
 
Objective 3e: Make oral presentations using a variety of resources and skills.
 
Objective 3f: Create graphs, tables, diagrams, drawings, and other explanatory materials.
 
Objective 3g: Generate reports.

Objective 4a: Understand the role of the U.S. and California Constitutions and political processes in managing in public and nonprofit organizations.

Objective 4c: Develop, implement, and evaluate a budget.
