Mission Outcomes Assessment Faculty Student Work

Departmental Learning Goals and Objectives:
 
GOAL I: Demonstrate biological literacy of the central themes of scale, energy, growth, regulation, reproduction, inheritance, and evolution throughout the curriculum.
 
Objective A: Demonstrate Freshman-level biological literacy of the principles of organization, form, and function at the levels of the: a) atom, molecule, organelle, cell, tissue, b) organ, organ system, organism, and c) population, community, and ecosystem.
 
Objective B: Demonstrate Junior-level biological literacy in Biological Research Design and two of the remaining three areas: a) Genetics, b) Physiology, and c) Ecology.
 
Objective C: Demonstrate Junior-level biological literacy in selected areas of interest in elective courses.
 
Objective D: Demonstrate Senior-level biological literacy in selected areas of interest in elective courses.
 
Objective E: Demonstrate Senior-level biological literacy in evolutionary biology.


GOAL II: Engage in scientific inquiry in the biological sciences by demonstrating mastery of cognitive, analytical, communication, and information skills.
 
Objective A: Demonstrate an increased skill level in the following: a.) Formulating questions and testing hypotheses b.) Collecting, analyzing, and presenting data and drawing appropriate conclusions c.) Presenting results orally and written and d.) Evaluating and/or utilizing current biological literature.


GOAL III: Acquire investigative skills in the laboratory and field.
 
Objective A: Demonstrate mastery of biological investigative skills in the laboratory and field.


GOAL IV: Demonstrate a mastery of material from supporting cognates.
 
Objective A: Demonstrate mastery of material from mathematics, information technology, and chemistry: a.) at the basic skills level and b.) at the level appropriate to their selected concentration or tract.
