Mission Statement:
The mission of the Music Program is to actively contribute to
the musical, intellectual, cultural and aesthetic environment of
the California State University at Bakersfield and its service
region. The mission is attained through the programs of study
provided for music majors, the several music electives for
non-majors and the many varied concerts, recitals, workshops,
and festivals offered and hosted by the department on campus and
throughout the community. The principal mission of the Music
Major is realized when the music student completes the
curriculum for a Bachelors of Arts Degree in Music, following
one or two tracks: General Music or Music Education. This
specialized music curriculum is set within a liberal arts
context insuring that music students receive a broad education in
the arts and humanities as well as their highly specialized
professional training in music. Students who successfully
complete the Bachelor of Arts in Music will be prepared for
graduate study, primary or secondary teaching in music, and/or a
variety of career options in the field of music.
