Mission Statement:
Courses approved for the American History component of the university’s American Institutions requirement seek to achieve the following: provide broad historical overviews of the social, economic, and political development of the United States; help students understand and appreciate the diversity of the American people and how diversity has been viewed over time; assist students in the development of their expository composition skills; acquaint students with the major personalities who have shaped the nation’s history; provide the opportunity to reflect thoughtfully on the American political system and how its has changed; and provide a historical understanding of the importance of political participation and continued civic education.
