Departmental Learning Goals
The goals of the program are as follows:
| Goal I: |
Strengthen the undergraduate
economics program through efforts that include
curriculum innovation and instructional excellence; high
academic standards; recruitment of majors and minors;
creation of an intellectually stimulating environment
outside the classroom encompassing seminars, student
internships, and student involvement in faculty
research; effective advising and mentoring; and a
strategy to broaden the employment opportunities of
graduates.

| Goal II: |
Create an atmosphere supportive of
scholarly activity that results in successful
participation by economics faculty in the processes of
research and publication.

| Goal III: |
Explore the feasibility of
a new Master’s degree program in
Economics.

| Goal IV: |
Make a significant
contribution to the liberal arts mission
of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences by
participating in teacher preparation, general education,
and university-wide efforts to internationalize the
curriculum.

| Goal V: |
Administer the
interdisciplinary degree program in Environmental
Resource Management and strengthen the program
through efforts that include integration of community
expertise into the curriculum; mobilization of community
support and assistance; recruitment of majors; student
internships; effective advising and mentoring; and a
strategy to maximize the employment opportunities of
graduates.
