Mission Statement:
Courses approved for the American History component of the
university's American Institutions requirement seek to achieve
the following: provide broad historical overviews of the social,
economic, cultural, and political development of the American
people and how diversity has been viewed over time; assist
students in the development of their critical thinking and
expository composition skills; acquaint students with major
events and personalities that have shaped the nation's history;
provide the opportunity to reflect thoughtfully on American
society and the political system and how these have changed; and
provide a historical understanding of the importance of
political participation and continued civic education.
