“The George” award recipients are announced:

 

Congratulations, Treyvonna Acton of the CSUB 2019 graduating class!

 

Guest Adjudicator, Katie Grinnan, has selected Treyvonna Acton to be the recipient of this years George Prize. Treyvonna's untitled site specific sculpture was selected from among 17 art majors’ work exhibited in the Graduating Senior Exhibition titled Pinnacle, at the Todd Madigan Gallery at CSUB. An honorable mention goes to Emily Gamez, Carolina Gomez and Jose Navarro Jr for their works in the show.   

Congratulations to Treyvonna, Emily, Carolina and Jose and to all of this years graduates for an outstanding show.

 


 

Katie Grinnan is an internationally recognized artist and Assistant Professor of Sculpture at CSU Long Beach. Grinnan has had solo exhibitions at the gallery Commonwealth and Council (2018), LA><ART, Los Angeles (2016); Diverse Works, Houston (2015); Human Resources, Los Angeles (2014); Hammer Museum, Los Angeles (2013); MAK Center for Art and Architecture, Los Angeles (2008); Aspen Art Museum (2005); and Whitney Museum of American Art, New York (2003).

 


 

Pinnacle is on view from April 4- May 11, 2019 at the Todd Madigan Gallery, adjacent to the Dore Theatre at CSUB. There will be a public reception on April 4, from 5- 7 pm. The George Award

George Ketterl was a much-loved founding member of the CSUB Art Faculty and a prominent artist. George vowed never to retire and when he died November 2nd, 2010, he was still a member of the faculty. In his honor “The George Award” was created. The George is a $500 award given to an art major selected from among the students showing in the Senior Exhibition by an impartial guest adjudicator.

George Ketterl is remembered for his selfless contribution to the education of thousands of CSUB art students, many who have gone on to become prominent artists themselves. He exhibited internationally, receiving commissions for his paintings in locations as varied as Florida and the Netherlands. George received several grants and awards including a Ford Foundation Fellowship, a Danforth Foundation Fellowship and a National Endowment for the Arts Award.
