Majors that Matter
The arts and humanities matter – not just to our students, but to our entire community. That’s why the School of Arts and Humanities at California State University, Bakersfield is dedicated to connecting the arts and humanities to everyday life.
Our programs provide students with the cultural knowledge to appreciate the contributions to human development that have gone before, and the skills to put that knowledge to use in creating better communities for themselves and their families in the 21st century.
Some of the unique advantages of studying Arts and Humanities at CSUB include:
The School of Arts & Humanities is proud to have experienced professors from diverse backgrounds who are passionate about teaching as well as research. Many of our faculty members are also working professionals – including artists, musicians, writers, and communications specialists – who bring valuable real-world experience to the classroom.
Intimate Learning Environment
At CSUB, Arts & Humanities courses are taught by professors and experienced instructors, not teaching assistants. Classes are small compared to other major universities. As a result, students benefit from a close-knit community, personal attention from professors, and special opportunities simply not found at other comprehensive universities.
The School of Arts & Humanities is a leader in cultural awareness, ethnic diversity, and global studies. We welcome scholars and visiting artists from around the world. Our majors engage in cultural research that is crucial to understanding the human complexities of a diverse society and a fully interdependent global economy.
Critical thinking and creative problem-solving are fundamental skills at the heart of all the Arts and Humanities disciplines and essential to success in any career. Thus CSUB Arts & Humanities graduates are well-prepared for a wide range of challenging and rewarding careers in business, education, law, entertainment, media, public service, and many other fields—not just those that exist today but also those that will exist in the future.
