Withdrawal and Repeat Information
Students can only withdraw from 28 quarter units during the course of their studies at California State University, Bakersfield. For most students, that means that they can only withdraw from four to six classes in their undergraduate career. Students taking high-unit courses will have even fewer opportunities to withdraw.
Schedule Adjustments made during the Add/Drop Period do not count toward the limit, but changes made after the Add/Drop Period will count toward the limit. Approved course withdrawal for medical or military reasons will also not count towards the 28 unit limit. For more information about “Withdrawal from the Term” policy, please go to the Academic Information section of University Catalog.
Course Repeat Information
Students can only register for the same course if they previously earned a grade of “C-“or below. Undergraduate students are limited to repeating 24 quarter units (with grade forgiveness) during their career at California State University, Bakersfield.
Students may repeat an additional 18 quarter units. In such instances, the repeat grade shall not replace the original grade; instead, both grades shall be calculated into the student's overall grade-point average, but the units earned for the course shall only be granted once. Students can only register for the same course if they previously earned a grade of “C-” or lower.
When students choose to take a course for which they have earned test units, the units earned will be applied to the calculation of total units only once. You will not be able count both test credits and course credits toward 180 credits required for graduation. For more information about “Course Repeat” policy, please go to the Academic Information section of the University Catalog.
Students may not re-enroll in a class in which a grade of "I" (Incomplete) is currently assigned.
An “I” must normally be made up within one quarter immediately following the end of the term during which it was assigned. This limitation prevails whether or not the student maintains continuous enrollment. The student is not permitted to re-enroll in the course until the incomplete grade is removed and a final course grade is processed. For more information about “Incomplete” policy, please go to the Academic Information section of University Catalog .
