You may enroll at California State University, Bakersfield, as a first-time freshman, transfer, graduate, post-baccalaureate, or international student. Generally, the application process includes the following:
Completed application form (available online through CSUMentor)
One official transcript from each institution previously attended
Appropriate test scores (i.e., SAT, ACT, GRE, etc.)
$55 application fee or completed fee waiver form

Applicants who have earned a high school diploma or G.E.D. but have never attended a college or university since high school are considered first-time freshmen. Click HERE for more information on the first-time freshman application process and admission requirements. |
Applicants who have attended a college or university at least one full quarter/semester after graduation from high school are considered for transfer admission. Click HERE for more information on the transfer application process and admission requirements.

Applicants who are seeking or currently holding U.S. visas as exchange visitors or other nonimmigrant classifications are considered international students. (Note: You will be directed to the International Students Programs website for more information on admission requirements.) |
Application Filing Period
The initial application filing period for first-time freshmen and transfer applicants is November 1st - 30th of the previous year for fall quarter, June 1st - 20th of the previous year for winter quarter, and August 1st - 31st of the previous year for spring quarter. Post Baccalaureate and Graduate applicants must check with the specific desired graduate department for any deadlines the program may have; however, admission applications are accepted throughout the year. Students are encouraged to apply early during the initial application filing period.
Residency Classification for Tuition Purposes
Generally, if a student has established and maintained a California residence for at least one year immediately preceding the residence determination date, he/she is considered for in-state tuition. The residence determination date for each academic term is as follows:

Apply online to CSUB through CSU Mentor
The CSU Mentor website is designed to help students through each phase of choosing the CSU they wish to attend. CSUMentor is also a great way to begin planning for college and to keep track of your academic progress. An array of college planning resources is available. Aside from the standard admission application fee ($55, should you decide to apply), there is no charge to use CSUMentor.
Intrasystem Concurrent or Visitor Information
Students enrolled in a campus of the California State University may apply for Intrasystem Concurrent or Visitor enrollment at another CSU campus for one term. For more information to complete an application for the Intrasystem Concurrent or Visitor program, click here.
