myCSUB unavailable June 29th 8:30am-4:00pm due to Data Center power outage

myCSUB and all other CSUB computing services (such as Blackboard, www.csub.edu website, Class Roster Toolkit, FirstClass email, CFS/CFS Data Warehouse, etc.) were unavailable due to a power blackout in the CSUB Data Center.

During the Campus planned power outage on Friday June 29th, the data center was supposed to switch over to battery power and our backup generator to provide uninterrupted power. However, an electrical failure prevented the data center from receiving the generated power, the data center eventually ran out of battery power, and all systems subsequently shut down.

Once power was restored, it took many man hours to validate, correct, and make the systems available. Systems starting coming back online at about 3:00pm, with most of them available by 7:30pm that night.

The campus will be reviewing the failure to understand the root cause as well as take steps to prevent this from happening in the future.
