First Job After College: KARE-TV, Twin Cities, MN
What advice do you have for students pursuing a career in your industry? The best thing to do while still in school is to get an internship at a TV station. This allows you to see what the business is really about. It's also a great way to make contacts in the industry.
What do you wish you would have known when you graduated from college? Because I had finished two internships while in college, I feel I had a good sense of what I was getting myself into!
What are the best/worst aspects of your job? The best part of my job is that it is new and different every day. I love that we are able to do stories that can affect positive change in the community. The worst aspect of the job is covering the devastating, sad stories that we often have to cover as journalists.
What attirbutes are important for professionals in your industry? Journalists must strive to be transparent and objective. A good journalist also lives with an insatiable curiosity for many different things. Curiosity drives most great journalists I know.
