| September 9, 2008 TO: Faculty | |||
Welcome back! We hope that your summer has been enjoyable and that you had time for some rest and relaxation. As we look to begin another busy Fall Quarter, we would like to take this opportunity to inform you of changes with the disability accommodation letters and procedures, and also introduce you to our new Testing Assistant. Accommodation Letter Changes and Information: In an effort to simplify the process for students and faculty, the Services for Students with Disabilities (SSD) office has created accommodation letters that are valid for one year. This is a change from the previous years when accommodation letters were valid for one quarter at a time. All SSD students are still required to update their files each year. This provides us the opportunity to evaluate the effectiveness of each student’s accommodations and make any necessary adjustments. As of September 2, 2008, the SSD office will no longer provide students with hand-written accommodation letters in sealed envelopes. Instead, SSD will generate the original accommodation letters. Students will then be given copies of their accommodation letter. It continues to be the responsibility of the student to provide you with a copy of their accommodation letter. Due to confidentiality reasons, SSD cannot send copies via e-mail. Staff Changes: Many of you may have had the opportunity to meet our new Testing Assistant, Patricia (Patty) Jimenez. She replaces Vickie Parker who is currently enjoying retirement. Patty worked in our office for several years as a student assistant, and we are thrilled to have her as a staff member. If you have questions or concerns regarding out-of-class testing, please give Patty a call at 661-654-3360. SSD still hopes to have a Learning Disability Specialist in the future! While we do not offer in-house learning disability assessments and testing at this time, we can review previous testing records and recommend appropriate accommodations. Thank you in advance for your willingness to accommodate students with disabilities. We appreciate your support and please feel free to contact us at 661-654-3360 if you have questions or concerns. A copy of this letter will be available on our website, http://www.csub.edu/UnivServices/SSD/ . Sincerely, |
