The Organization

In the beginning, racism and sexism
limited the number of Latina Women represented
in the higher institutions of learning and in the
community at large. After much oppression, no
one could imagine that Latinas would ever take
the initiative to form an organization that would
aid Latina population.

In September of 1993, fourteen Latina women
came together and finally broke through those
confining barriers which came to form
Theta Sigma Chi.

We, as individuals, have experienced similar
obstacles and know that together as sisters we
will learn to overcome them. Theta Sigma Chi
began with the idea of starting a sisterhood of
Latinas in which we could help out our raza by
promoting educational, social and cultural
awareness through unity.

The Culture

As a member of Theta Sigma Chi, you will
have many opportunities to learn about yourself
and your roots. You will gain the knowledge to
grow and become a stronger Latina with the
closeness of our organization.

Theta Sigma Chi does not restrain itself to only
campus involvement. Involvement we know it is
important that we reach out to our community and
strengthen our Latinas through projects such as
the Big Sister Program, the Adult Literacy
Campaign and by providing scholarships for our
raza.

We would like to thank you for showing interest in
our organization and hope that you will consider
joining Theta Sigma Chi.

 Latinas Unidas

"One standing alone can be attacked and defeated, but
two can stand back-to-back and conquer. Three is
evenbetter, for a triple-braided cord is not easily broken."
