As stated in previous columns, ASI members are the students on campus who represent all of you at various important committees on campus. Over the past couple of weeks, two issues have been prominent regarding the campus committees. One issue that still has not been resolved is the absolute importance of having a student present at all meetings (which are, of course, discussing things related to students).
Recently, the Transportation Committee scheduled their meeting at a time when the student representative was unavailable. Yet after giving several weeks notice, the meeting still was not changed. Now ASI is not asking for the world to revolve around us, but at least make an attempt to show us that the students are integral in decision making regarding our own campus.
Nevertheless, the chair of the committee attributed the problem to communication error. Yet this has happened more than once, so I am unsure if communication breakdown is the true culprit.
Also, there has been an ever-growing expression of the how, between the administration and the students, there is no direct link. A recent committee meeting regarding the issue of bringing our basketball teams back to the Icardo Center threw fellow ASI member Dorina Fletcher into a full-on lecture about the opinions of the students. And even though CSUB students have given their opinion on the matter numerous times before, it is still enlightening to some administration who have not heard our voices (or maybe never tried).
My point‹ASI members will keep working on making more of these connections, in hopes that some administration members will meet us halfway.
On a side note, ASI logo contest entries are due this Friday, March 15 at 3 p.m. in the ASI office. The prize is still $300, so get your entries in A.S.A.P.!! Good luck!!
