It's been three years since Chris Isaak released a new album; "Always Got Tonight" makes up for all that lost time.

Isaak has been out of the spotlight for several years. His last project was a track for the sound track to "Eyes Wide Shut." Like many artists, Isaak has made his way to the small screen starring in his own show on HBO. But Isaak still found time to record "Always Got Tonight."

The opening track, "One Day," greatly displays Isaak's deep heartfelt voice. Isaak has long been known for being one of the industries saddest singers. "One Day" is the kind of song that is great to start the day off with. The track has a great beat and words that stick in your heart.

Isaak takes on a harder-rock edge with "Always got Tonight." A harder edge is a new sound for Isaak who usually sings soft melodies. One great example of Isaak’s signature style is “I Wonder" off his "Baja Sessions" LP. Isaak did, however, go back to his roots with "Life Will Go On." This track will be a shoo-in for his die-hard fans.

One of the new breakthroughs in music has been the use of electronica. Cher did it, so did Madonna, Janet and yes, even Britney.

Isaak took a softer side in "Notice the Ring." Instead of using hard synthesized sounds, Isaak uses what seemed to be more of an in studio-developed sound.

Overall, the album is what you'd expect from Isaak, but this time, he gave us a slight smile.

My grade: B+
