‘Battlefield Earth’ loses the battle and the war and reviewer’s attentionThe adaptation of an L. Ron Hubbard novel onto the silver screen is reason enough to raise a few eyebrows. As the founder of the controversial religion Scientology, Hubbard was equally praised and reviled during his lifetime. The fact that Hubbard’s 1980 novel “Battlefield Earth” is the latest screen project of Scientology member John Travolta should raise even more eyebrows.

Actors amusing, but remainder of movie ‘Screwed’While “Gladiator” and “Battlefield Earth” were raking in some big-time cash, and “Center Stage” was taking a well-deserved flop, a quirky little comedy called “Screwed” entertained the few people willing to take a chance. Unfortunately, its lack of quality prevents the film from doing much else.

Chumbawumba up again with addictive new albumSee if this rings a bell: Chumbawamba. Remember that name? No? What about, “I get knocked down/But I get up again/You’re never gonna keep me down.” Yeah, those guys.

Saxophonist to perform at CSUB Jazz FestivalThe Bakersfield Jazz Festival, known to highlight some of the most glamorous contemporary and traditional jazz musicians around, will not disappoint this year. This edition of the festival will have a star-studded cast, which includes Grammy-award winning saxophonist Tom Scott.
