The tail tale pond

Tail

Breanna Cooper/The Runner

For the past two weeks, Korean sculptor Byoung-Tak Mun had been creating a more than 25-foot spiraling dragon tail out of rebar and branches in the Art Department at California State University, Bakersfield. On Friday, May 28, the half-ton sculpture was placed by crane onto cement footings in the pond on the west side of campus. In
Korean mythology, the dragons represent nature. This sculpture
is Mun’s final project in his Nine Dragon series, which inhabit different
countries around the world. An interpreter was available for interviewing the artist and students and Art Department staff were also in attendance.
