Get Involved!

This Club is enormously altruistic.  Really, it is all we do: check our mission statement if you don't believe me.  If you'd like to be a part of what we're doing, you have reached the correct page.  If nothing here seems appealing to you, please check out our leadership directory for opportunities more tailored to your interests and skill set.

What is in it for me?

To show our appreciation for all of the hard work our members do, a quorum of the Executive Committee, with oversight from the membership, decided during the open meeting on 11/17/14 to approve the following measures as proposed by the Volunteering Committee:

  1. Anyone who completes five hours of service to the club will get a free lanyard
  2. Those who complete ten hours will have their names entered into a drawing for a free club tee-shirt and will receive special recognition in front of their families when they graduate
  3. Volunteers who are so committed that they earn twenty hours of service will receive honorary recognition in front of their families when they graduate and will have their names and pictures displayed on our Web Site, the service board in DDH, and our Newsletter

All recognition will be given at the CSUB psychology department graduation reception in June.

On top of these perks, volunteer service can benefit you in the following ways:

  • service experience for your curriculum vitae
  • networking opportunities for potential employers
  • connections with your classmates and professors
  • enormous empirically-validated benefits to your psychological well-being (Astin & Sax, 1998)

To track your hours, please download this form, print it out, and submit it to Susie Villarreal (see our leadership directory for more info) by June 1st, 2015

Current Opportunities

Check out our dynamic calendar for upcoming events - we can always use volunteers with everything that we do.  For specific service opportunity postings, keep reading:

Volunteering Committee

Campus Beautification: Join us after club meetings to clean up our area, in front of the Education Building, clean and looking awesome! Please bring your creative ideas to help beautify our area to our Volunteering Committee or Campus Beautification Coordinator.

ADAKC: Volunteering event in January TBD.

Fundraising Committee

Silent Auction: We are always looking for donations for our annual spring silent auction.  If you have something worth donating, please get in contact with one of the executives on the Fundraising Committee (see our directory here) and we can work out some recognition.

Newsletter Committee

Job Opening - Newsletter Editor: We're currently searching for new people to join our team of editors (it's easier to edit this thing than you'd think).  Please contact us at psychologyclub.csub@gmail.com if you are interested.  You will be afforded training and guidance if you so wish and your position will come with club recognition for your curriculum vitae.

Seeking Newsletter Articles: Write about anything you like, really anything at all, and if we publish it then you will be provided with one or more hours to count towards service to the club.  This is a fun and easy way to get your voice heard and gain some recognition for it.  You can see some previous issues here for ideas.
