Parent's FAQ
What will my daughter get out of Phi Sigma Sigma that they would not get out of any other college organization?
  • Joining Phi Sig can help make the transition from high school to college a little easier. Sorority life can enable her to create life-long friendships that she couldn't find any where else. Through Phi Sigma Sigma your daughter will learn many leadership and management skills. She will also have a large support group to ensure good scholarship. She will also participate in many fundraising and philanthropy opportunities.

  • How will joining Phi Sig now benefit my student after college?
  • Not only will your student make friendships with other Phi Sigs that will last a lifetime, Greeks have national networks for their members to use for securing jobs and advancing careers. Phi Sigma Sigma gives many women the experience they need to lead any group. They learn many ways to plan, organize and accomplish all of the tasks that they are given.

  • Will my student's academics be compromised if they join a sorority?
  • Students often find managing their time difficult when moving from the highly structured high school environment to the freedom of challenge. Phi Sigma Sigma membership assists in that transition by offering academic programs that include study partners and mandatory study hours.

  • Are sororities just like the ones in the movies and televison?
  • Unfortunately, individuals without complete information often define the image of Greek life. Since only 2% of the U.S. population is Greek, most people don't have first-hand experience and stereotypes are the norm. Phi Sigma Sigma does hold "socials", however these socials do not include alcohol. There are only two events that have alcohol; Royal Exchange and Sapphire Ball. The alcohol is not provided to any one under the age of 21 and is provided by a third party source.

  • How much time will Phi Sig take up?
  • The first quarter of membership is typically the most time intensive as the new member goes through the chapter's Education Program. The time spent in this program will give your student the opportunity to develop their leadership and time management skills, learn about the history and tradition of the organization, develop friendships with their new member class as well as the rest of the chapter, and allow them to become involved in other activities and organizations. After the initiation into the chapter, expectations will vary. Phi Sigma Sigma has weekly chapter meetings and other mandatory events (philanthropies, service, initiation) throughout the year, but they are generally planned in advance. The majority of Greek students attends class full-time, work, and are active in their chapter! The important thing to remember, is the more your student puts in to the chapter, the more they will get out of being a member!

  • Doesn't sorority membership cost a lot of money?
  • Greek organizations are very affordable and fees go to services that will positively impact your child. In the first year of membership, a few one-time expenses are assessed. First semester costs run a little higher, but will go down the following semester. Phi Sigma Sigma also has payment plans that can be arranged to reduce and ease that financial responsibility.

  • What about hazing?
