The Administrative Computing Services Department is a part of Information Resources at
California State University, Bakersfield. The department consists of Administrative Computing
Support and System Operations.
Administrative Computing Support
The Administrative Computing Support staff provides technical support and system
maintenance for five major areas:
- Student information systems, including student information, faculty information, catalog and class schedules, curriculum, advising, housing, recruitment, registration, curriculum planning and academic history.
- Alumni systems, including membership, campaign, pledge and gift processing.
- Human Resources.
- Financial Aid, including applicant processing, need analysis, budgeting, packaging and disbursement.
- Financial Accounting and Purchasing.
- University RunnerCard
The systems which are supported and maintained by the Administrative
Computing Support staff include:
- Banner administrative system, including touch-tone access via Voice Response.
- FRS, ( Financial Reporting System).
- PRS, (Purchasing Reporting System).
- RunnerCard system. Other administrative functions such as Chancellor's Office reporting, OpScan operations for test scoring, check writing, campus mailing, etc.
The administrative support team also develops interfaces for all of these systems to ensure consistency of data and efficiency in processing.
System Operations
System Operations Support staff are responsible for maintaining the operational status of
all servers and mini/mainframe computers housed in the Administrative Computing Services
facility. Among the responsibilities of the System Operations Support staff is maintenance
of the Digital VAX and Alpha systems used for academic and administrative computing, together
with the various Intel-based servers used for Banner access.
The Operations staff provides additional support services, including:
- Maintenance of backups, including restoring files.
- Managing computer printer output.
- Running OpScan jobs, such as OPSCAN exams, SOCI, ELM/EPT, and surveys.
