NEW COMPUTER HELP SERVICE AVAILABLE
The Information Resources Department recently introduced the Student
Help Desk to assist students having computer problems.
Located in Lab A of Stiern Library, the Help Desk is staffed from noon
to 10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and from noon to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
Students can contact the Help Desk by phone at 665-OOPS (6677), by
email at studenthelp@csubak.edu, or in person. A web page at http://www.csubak.edu/sthd
outlines Help Desk services and hours.
The Help Desk staff can answer questions about problems with:
• Desktop applications like Microsoft Office, Wordperfect Suite, Netscape,
Internet Explorer, HTML, AOL, ArcView/GIS, SPSS, Photoshop, Illustrator
and Minitab;
• Configuring home computers for remote access;
• Telnet, PPP and FTP configurations and applications;
• MacIntosh, PC, and VMS operating systems;
• Printer systems and queues;
• Norton Utilities and McAfee applications;
• Email systems like VAX, First Class and the soon to be deployed Edgemail.
Please inform your students of this new service. We encourage
your comments and expect Help Desk services to evolve to meet the changing
technical needs of the student body. Please direct your questions
and suggestions to Marirose Brown at 664-3436.
