Computer Virus Software Now Available
Recently Media Services and Computer & Telecommunication Services purchased a campus license for McAfee Total Virus Defense for desktop use. As macro virus problems have come up, User Support has installed the software on individual computers. If you would like to schedule an appointment to have User Support personnel install McAfee on your computer, please call x2307. If you use e-mail extensively to send and receive documents, you are urged to get the Virus software installed ASAP. The software and installation are free to faculty and staff for campus use.
Some of the symptoms of an infected file or application are:
1) Extremely slow response time in opening applications and windows. (This may also be a number of other problems, call x2307 for identification of the problem.)
2) On Macintosh workstations, an arrow on the Word file icon instead of a normal "W" icon, may indicate a Word macro virus.
3) Word documents automatically being saved as templates may also indicate a Word macro virus.
Call User Support (X2307) immediately if you suspect you have a virus.
