First Class Information Update
We have been receiving several calls a day from people who are trying
to log on to First Class and getting a dialog box that says "The communication
link has failed and is unable to transmit your requests to the server.
Please Quit and log in again." The problem is that First Class E-mail
has become a very popular program here on campus. A number of people log
on to their account and stay logged on while they are on campus or at work
on other projects. The greater number of users coupled with longer logged-on
times, has lead to a shortage of concurrent account availability. We have
a limited number of licenses and hard disk space for First Class and will
not be able to upgrade this year.
To allow greater access, we are changing the "time out" configuration of First Class effective Tuesday, May 5. Currently, the First Class server is set up to allow 4 hours of non-activity before automatically logging a user off. In order to provide better access to users, this "time-out" has been changed to one hour of non-activity. Non-activity means the user has not read, sent, replied to, or forwarded a message. When the system has determined that an hour has lapsed with out activity, it will automatically log the user off and a dialog box will appear letting the user know they have been logged out of First Class.
If you need to use First Class after you have been automatically logged off, you can use the Connect command from the Service menu to reconnect to your account. The receiving function of First Class is not affected by an automatic log-off.
