Voice Mail FAQs V
Q: I have received a message that really does not pertain to me, but to a co-worker. The old voice mail would let us redirect a message to another mailbox. Can we do this with the new system?
A: The new voice mail system calls this forwarding a message. To forward a message from your mailbox to another mailbox (after pressing 1 to listen to new messages or 5 to listen to a saved messages) press 2 to forward the message. The system will ask you to “enter the mailbox number of the person to whom you wish to send this message (enter the number). “To start recording, press 2. To stop recording, press 2”. This enables you to record an introduction to the message you will be forwarding. Continue to follow the prompts to send the message to another mailbox and to then discard or save the original message.
Note: If you do not wish to record an introduction or after you record your introduction, press 5 to send the message.
Q: How do I reply to a message? That was something else the old system would let us do.
A: To reply to a message (after pressing 1 to listen to new messages or 5 to listen to saved messages) press 8. The system will tell you who will receive the message. Then it will ask you “To start recording, press 2. To stop recording, press 2". After you press 2 to stop recording you will be able to press 5 to send your reply.
Note: You can reply only to messages left from on-campus phones.
Q: I want to reply to a message, but the system keeps asking me for the mailbox number where I wish to send my message. What is happening?
A: The telephone of the person, who has left the message, does not have a mailbox.
Q: I have listened to a message and would like to talk to the person, not leave a message. Is there an easier way than hanging up from voice mail and then dialing the phone number of the person who left the message?
A: There is another way of replying to a message. Instead of pressing 8 and then pressing 2 (to record), you will press 8, then press 9 to transfer to sender. What the voice mail system will do is connect you to the phone of the person who has left the message. When it does this, the system transfers you out of voice mail. If they do not answer, the phone will divert to their voice mailbox.
Note: When you go back into your voice mailbox, the original message
you replied to will still be there as a new message. You will still
need to discard or save this message.
